Defending against Sky lanterns?

Any suggestions on the best defense? What should be upgraded, and to what level?

look at your weapons (on the same screen as upgrade button) and see what they damage (ground, air, etc.) Lanterns are an air weapon, ground only weapons will have no effect on them. Rearrange your layout and decide what to upgrade to take advantage of the fact I just shared.
