2017 Meta Analysis - Championship

After a long time of no official meta analysis I had some time during the weekend after being booted from TOP16 with my two accounts, so I'm proud to present - S11 Championship Meta Analysis!

What I did - went over TOP8 of all 6 continents, reviewed their teams and teams they had to face to get from TOP64 to TOP8 (3 fights, 3-5 battles each).

Total number of players in this analysis: Each of the TOP8 finalists in each continent had to take down 3 other TOP64 players, so we're looking at 4x8x6 = 192 players who got into TOP64 of Season11.

The results (full list attached below):

Most used heroes (For example: 92% of players had bunny in the teams that fought):


Heroes with the best success rate (For example: 57% teams that had tcat/tb in their lineup won):


Some observations:
Not surprisingly, turtle is present for almost every fight, I'm guessing we don't see a perfect 100% because he may have been assigned to teams 4/5 and the fight only had 3 battles.
29% of the fights had only 3 rounds, 37% had 4 rounds and 34% had 5 rounds.
The most common team (not suprisingly): turtle bunny ooze chemist tap, this team won 73% of the battles it fought.
5 brave souls used the new sign-in hero QoW (Queen of Wraith), all 5s r2 (training unknown) - those teams lost all encounters.
Musketeer was used in 32 teams and won 13 (41%) - not bad actually.
There were several teams with non meta heroes such as wm, wd, sil, oc, mach, ferry, fd, cw, admiral etc - they failed horribly.
87% of all teams are using the same 25 heroes.

Well, all expected.. Only common heroes/teams got high win rates.. but now we have the statistics!

One thing that is impossible to tell, but I think very relevant, is how much training the heroes had.

All the top contributors/winners are ones that almost everyone (at least on my server) is training heavily. This is mostly because you see TF ER Ooze|DivK Chem TaP as a VERY common arena def/att team. Sorc, LB, HN and Chap are also heavily trained to assist with HCamp plundering.

TCat is another that trained well is wonderful in a quick attack sense.

I wish there were some way to see how much training is affecting all aspects of HC, as I"m of the opinion that it is THE most important facet of many of our contests.

I think it's pretty cool how quickly thunder beast got adopted. It seemed like was kind of ignored initially, and then all of a sudden everyone was using him everywhere. He's basically a staple now on every VW/EB team, and now he's even found a way into DV/GK lockdown teams to counter TF/ER combos.

One thing that would be interesting would be to look at the heroes/teams breakdown for the top 64 on each continent in elite preliminaries round. I suspect that the heroes distribution will be different in elite prelims round since players need to play more offensively to score higher.

I find the Thunder Beast very good, really beastly at WotG, and amazing against low level heroes.

This was a great read Archon! I am curious to see how this looks if you just took the top 16 finalists instead of the top 64. Some guys get lucky and make the top 64 still not exactly knowing what they are doing, if you make the top 16 though chances are you have pretty solid skill.

pretty sure if u got to top 64 they are good already. luck all the way to top 64 is near impossible

I did it in one of the previous seasons (although not published) - There's a problem with players above s100 who usually face very weak opponents and get into the championship with barely trained heroes, in addition - getting into the top64 is not only related to team setups but your luck in getting easy opponents or having the turtle teams in the same position.

I actually took the TOP8 players, not the the TOP64 - in each continent a TOP8 player fought 1 TOP16, 1 TOP32 and 1 TOP64 so you can say that this meta analysis consists of 48 TOP8, 48 TOP16, 48 TOP32 and 48 TOP64 players (192 players total).
