Crazy long time that we asked this, I'm agree with that 100% it's crazy pain in the ass to cap your heroes... Specially when you are 105...

short term solution, upgrade the limit from 999 to 9999

Also they can improve caves with an algorithm that gives you equal xp pots. For example when the loot is 17 salves we can get 3 cheeses and 2 salves. When its 33 salves we can get 1 steak, 1 cheese and 3 salves etc.
