Query on Hero Stats : Armor Penetration and Life Steal Rating

Does anyone know how does Armor Penetration work? Eg an armor penetration score of 50, how does it interact with the dmg he can inflict, and how does it interact with the armor of the enemy? I believe it cannot be just a simple subtraction of that value from the enemy's armor.

Another area is Life Steal Rating. A value of 80, what does it mean? Is it that everytime he hits, he steals 0.8% of his maximum life, or is there another interpretation to this rating?

Armor reduces physical damage taken. There is some formula to calculate the damage inflicted, can't find it now but can tell you how penetration works. It simply takes armor value lowered by the penetration amount and puts it in that formula.

Lifesteal is hp given by % of the damage you actually inflicted (by actually I mean the damage after whole calculation step).
    Keep on walking.

Thanks DW, so a life steal rating of 80 means restoring 80% of net damage inflicted per hit.

As for armor penetration, if I understand you correctly, say your attacking hero has an armor penetration of 50, and the enemy attacked has an armor of 500, so 450 net armor is inputted for net damage taken. Have I interpreted it correctly?

It doesnt work like that. The life steal rating is used to calculate the ratio to be applied against damage inflicted to determine actual life stolen. Not applied straight.

IE: ninja can crit some where between 10-22k, he has a life steal rating on average of ~150% .. that would be 15k to 33k life stolen per crit if its applied straight.

I see, it makes sense lol. So do we know that ratio or how it can be derived? A numerical example like what you illustrated will help paint a good picture.

i have a formula found from http://www.ptbus.com/dtcq/282752/, it makes sense but havent tested fully yet.

Translated: total life steal rating (include war chief buffs etc) / (total life steal rating+target level+100(fixed number) ) =x result, convert x result to %

IE cw 89 orange paired with 89 wc against level 90 opposition, LS rating: 156+26.7 = 176.7/(176.7+90+100) = 0.48186 OR 48% round off.

It stats on the website there are findings:

Death Mage ult has no life steal

AOE phy has 1/2 life steal %

Holy dmg = 0 life steal

All phy dmg can suck life

magic dmg dont suck life with some exceptions such as IH ult (magic dmg but can suck life)

EDIT: The formula, i ran a quick test, good accuracy the findings havent tested yet, some i know for fact such as holy dont suck life etc.

Was faster to calculate this formula if instead of that green life bar to be a color changing bar (blue-green-yellow-red // full-75%-50%-25%-0%) with the hp left of the hero (a number 3567 / 14067 for ex) same with the stamina of the hero. But here we just dream.GJ with the formula very usefull for my necromancer team
