I found this to be false however as my Sapper died during an arena match within three seconds after the battle started.

Your heroes are set to automatic during Arena battles. I'm not in control of them.
So how do I suck? Shouldn't the AI be the one to blame here and not me?

but in case it's not:
Which teamlevel are you? Did you fully equip and promote your AS and did you max his skills? Did you enchant his items?
If you are not even close to level 73 than your absolutely right.... AS sucks in that case. He shines after lvl 73 and becomes a beast though.
You can't judge a hero only from one perspective. Other heroes are super powerful early on, but fall off later and become useless.
The ai might control the heroes, but it's your job to grow your heroes and which heroes you bring against any given team is all on you.
Promote to purple +2 ... still 30 dodge... about +/- 3khp more ... more armor, little more maag res !!
.. otherwise your sapper suxx against magic and his leech is not enough to fill up is health

It is not being a low level player. It is ''not reading''. There is a search panel in this forum and works great. When you have a question, you can't just come and open a thread. Yes you can but you shouldn't. There many people read this forums to find essencial information, not threads like '' is he good, is he bad ''. After reaching 80, we all have seen that there is no ''Bad'' hero. While searching something useful to read, i hate seeing these threads. I bet there are more than 20 threads about AS and his low hp pool.

But dodge doesn't work against magic attacks, so unless you are always up against full physical teams, I think promoting for the 2k+ HP is more worth it
